The City of Milwaukee will host a groundbreaking for new homes in two City-developed subdivisions at Walnut Circle and Josey Heights on Tuesday.  The owners of the new houses are taking advantage of the City’s incentives of one dollar lots and a $30,000 forgivable grant.

Heidi Moore was the first to take advantage of the incentives and closed on her new home in Josey Heights before Thanksgiving.

Walnut Circle and Josey Heights were developed in the mid-2000s to spur new home construction and owner occupancy.  These subdivisions follow a long line of new home construction and investment in the area preceded by Johnson’s Park, City Homes and the Lindsay Heights developments.

The alderman for the area, Russell W. Stamper, II, stresses that homeownership is key to a successful neighborhood, and the construction of these new homes will benefit the area in a multitude of ways.  Alderman Stamper has worked to revive investment in Walnut Circle and Josey Heights.  He praised the work of Brenda Brown, a neighbor of Walnut Circle and a mortgage officer with Great Midwest Bank.  Great Midwest Bank is a partner lender with the City and has worked with several recent home buyers at Josey Heights and Walnut Circle.

The new home construction incentives are made possible with funds from the City, Associated Bank, and the Zilber Family Foundation.  Some incentives are still available to prospective homeowners.  For more info visit: city.milwaukee.gov/DCD/CityRealEstate/WalnutCircle

The City has partnered with Emem Group to offer new home design options at these two subdivisions.  Emem Group is a Milwaukee-based design build real estate firm specializing in residential architecture, structural engineering, construction management and real estate development services.  Information about the home designs offered by Emem Group is available at emem-group.com.

The Walnut Circle subdivision is located at North 20th and West Walnut Streets where a number of lots are ready for development.  Josey Heights, similarly, is ready for development at North 12th and West Lloyd Streets.
