Associated Bank recognizes the bank performs at its best and can carry out its vision of making a difference in the community only with a diverse and inclusive workforce.

We especially reflect on this commitment during National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which gives us an opportunity to recognize the contributions of workers with disabilities and highlight the value and skills they bring to the workplace.

To help recruit individuals with disabilities, the talent acquisition team works closely with Associated Forward Abilities Network (AFAN), one of six colleague resource groups at Associated Bank. AFAN launched in 2016 to create a network of support for colleagues affected by disabilities and help move Associated Bank toward becoming an employer of choice for individuals with disabilities.

Associated also partners with various community organizations, such as ASPIRO and Goodwill, which focus on finding gainful employment for individuals with disabilities.

“We are grateful for these relationships, which help us put our diversity and inclusion goals into action,” said Bonnie Nohr, contingent workforce talent acquisition consultant, Associated Bank. “Through them, we gain knowledge of worker programs, connect with talented job seekers and become a better employer.”

As a result of these partnerships, Associated Bank recently welcomed two interns, Dallas Rihm and Michael Neuzerling. Rihm focused on reporting and integration services during his internship with the IT department in Green Bay while Neuzerling helps with office and filing duties on the residential lending team in Hales Corners.

“ASPIRO is honored to work with Associated Bank as they advocate for and see the importance in hiring individuals with disabilities,” said Jessica Klemens, employment services manager, ASPIRO.

“We are hoping these types of placements result in hires, but for now, it gives individuals the opportunity to experience Associated Bank and shows our managers the value of team diversity,” Nohr said.

For Rihm, who learned of the opportunity with Associated through ASPIRO’s partnership with the Wisconsin Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, the internship exceeded his expectations.

“The people have been very friendly and I’ve learned a lot, even a new code language,” he said. “I’m thankful for this opportunity.”
