Officials from Tomah Memorial Hospital, area dignitaries, elected officials and hospital staff broke ground on Thursday, Sept. 28 for a new $66 million facility along Gopher Avenue near Interstate 90 on the south side of Tomah, Wis.
Associated Bank provided a $13 million tax-exempt loan to Tomah Memorial Hospital for construction of the hospital. Additional financing for the $66 million healthcare facility will include a $35 million loan from the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities program, an $18.1 million equity contribution from the hospital itself, a five-year pledge of $275,000 from the Tomah Memorial Hospital Foundation, and an ongoing $2 million capital fundraising campaign.
“While the new three-story, 140-thousand square foot facility will be state-of-the-art, it is the staff that will make the new hospital first-class,” said Hospital Board President Paul Potter. “I don’t want to downplay the magnitude of this project by saying this, but what we’re about to build is just a shell. Great people inside that great facility will do great things."
Growing needs of the public are a major reason for a new hospital. Various patient-centered efficiencies are part of the new hospital design.
The new hospital will be renamed Tomah Health when completed in the fall of 2019. Updates on the hospital and construction progress can be found at www.tomahhospital.org/about-us/new-hospital-update
Construction is expected to be complete by fall 2019.
