Glenn Curran, vice president, commercial banking at Associated recently received the 2013 Alberta Kimball Community Service Award from the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce. In honor, the Chamber shared the following story, which will be published in one of its upcoming newsletters:
The 2013 Alberta Kimball Community Service Award is given to someone who has gone above and beyond devoting time and effort to community service in Oshkosh. Curran is not only Vice President of Commercial Banking at Associated; he spends whatever free time he has left working with various organizations in Oshkosh. He’s a member of the Oshkosh Southwest Rotary who served as president in 2011 and was on the board of directors for two years. Curran says the Rotary has served as a launching pad for him to get involved in the community.
The event he is most known for is Battle on Bago. Along with four other Southwest Rotarians, Curran started Battle on Bago in 2007 as an alternative method to fundraising. This ice fishing event has raised nearly $500,000 in six years and is now its own nonprofit entity — Battle on Bago Foundation, Inc. All the money raised goes towards to youth and conservation programs throughout Wisconsin.
“Being involved in the community provides you with a ‘pulse’ of what’s going on within Oshkosh or the community you live or work in. It not only allows you to give back but also sets a great example for others to create a similar culture going forward,” Glenn said.
Glenn also stays busy with the Boys and Girls Club. He serves on their Board of Directors and served on the golf outing committee for nine years. He is also involved in the Oshkosh Area Economic Development Board, Cerebral Palsy of Mideast WI Finance Committee, Lourdes Academy Auction Committee, Winneconne Youth Baseball/Football Coach, Hunter Safety Instructor and Junior Achievement.
Glenn encourages people to get involved in their community anyway they can. He says find an organization or event that best suits your passion and join!
Glenn was born and raised in Ripon, WI. He moved to Oshkosh to attend college at the UW Oshkosh where he majored in Finance and Marketing and met his wife, Jane. They have two extremely active boys Ryan and Jack.
We are proud to honor Glenn Curran with the 2013 Alberta Kimball Community Service Award, and look forward to his continued involvement in the Oshkosh community.
