PEORIA Ill. – November 08, 2016 – Colleagues at Associated Bank are dedicated to the customer experience and to doing the “little things” that make your experience a special one. That’s why when Nels Madsen, a former U.S. Navy veteran, came into an Associated Bank branch in Peoria, Ill., to apply for his first home loan, Beverly Bourazak, residential loan officer, went above and beyond to make sure he understood every nook and cranny of the process along the way.

“When applying for a mortgage loan there’s a lot of disclosures you need to sign,” said Bourazak. “Since Nels had never owned his own home before, all of this was new to him and I wanted to make sure he felt comfortable completing the process.”

Bourazak met with Nels several times in-person and over-the-phone to complete the paperwork and assisted with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to approve the mortgage loan. This led Nels to purchase his first home and ask Bourazak to come with to the loan closing because of the trusting relationship they had built.

“I wanted to do something special for him and honor his service to our country,” said Bourazak who presented a U.S. flag to Madsen at the closing and welcomed him into his new home. “I am proud to have helped a veteran buy his first home.”

“Thanks to Beverly I’m living in this beautiful town and happier than I’ve ever been in my life,” added Madsen, who served in the Persian Gulf during 1986. “I really do appreciate everything she did for me — she really took care of me. I’d recommend her to any veteran!”

We’re proud to support qualified armed forces veterans and their families. For more information on Federal VA loans, visit the Associated Bank website at
