Associated Bank Celebrates 150 Years of Service
Neenah, Wis. - Oct. 7, 2011 - Associated Bank, part of Associated Banc-Corp (Nasdaq: ASBC), announced today the company's plans for celebrating its 150th anniversary at one of the three oldest branches, reflecting the roots of Associated Banc-Corp.
Located at 100 West Wisconsin Avenue, Associated's Neenah branch will host a Neenah Community Tailgate Party on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., coinciding with Neenah's annual "Boofest." During the tailgate party, community members can tour the remodeled branch and view the history wall, catch the college football game, and enjoy tailgate food.
As part of the 150th year celebration Associated will donate $15,000 to the Gateway Park project fund, which aims at the development of Gateway Plaza, a gathering area at the west end of Wisconsin Avenue that will link downtown Neenah and Arrowhead Park. Additionally, Associated will donate $5,000 to Future Neenah, Inc., a community driven non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the economic and cultural vitality of Neenah.
"The rebuild of the Neenah branch symbolizes the rediscovering of its roots in the community and the renewal process of our company," said Oliver Buechse, Chief Strategy Officer, Associated Banc-Corp. "We are aware of our rich past and are continuing to build and reinvest in our future to bring the idea of delivering large bank capabilities, while remaining grounded in our local communities."
One of the key events in Associated's history was the merger of First Financial and Associated Bank in 1997, retaining the name of the latter. First Financial was a collection of many primarily Wisconsin-based thrifts and savings and loan banks. The founding of Associated Bank dates to 1970, when three strong banks in Northeast Wisconsin - Kellogg Citizens Bank of Green Bay, Manitowoc Savings Bank, and First National Bank of Neenah - formed a powerful alliance. The Neenah based bank is the oldest branch of the company's family tree, dating back to 1861, giving Associated the opportunity to celebrate a legacy of 150 years.
