Associated expert reviews social networking in the workplace at WASB Conference
Green Bay, Wis. - January. 17, 2012 - Associated Financial Group's David Flotten will present a break out session on social networking issues in the workplace at the 2012 Wisconsin Association of School Boards Conference.
David Flotten, JD, SPHR, Human Resources Consultant, Benefits Technical Advisor, Associated Financial Group, will review social networking and social networking sites, provide an outlook on current and potential social networking risks- as well as tips on how to reduce both legal and productivity risks.
Flotten has been with Associated Financial Group for 13 years and specializes in working with employers on a wide range of human resource compliance and strategic issues, including wage and hour rules, leaves of absence, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA and other benefits compliance. Flotten has been advising employers on human resources and benefits for over 15 years, and prior to that, spent two years working in the Minnesota court system. He regularly presents seminars on leadership skills, coaching, and employee benefits including presentations at the College of Continuing Education at the University of Minnesota.
"As more employees engage in social networking, employers are faced with a continuum of issues and they must decide how to respond," said Flotten. "Those issues may range from dealing with employees engaging in social networking at work, to defaming the employer and co-workers on social networking sites, to disclosing information that raises honesty and privacy issues. Besides employee and labor relations concerns, the unsettled state of the law in this area makes it even more difficult for employers to navigate this tricky area."
